WHAT BOTHERS ME THE MOST ABOUT THE NEW “EW” MAGAZINE COVER!

UPDATE EDIT:

Finally received the replacement copy for Entertainment Weekly’s San Diego Comic Con issue. Thankfully, “The New Buffy” headline they had splashed on the cover was NOT referencing a possible new Whedon-less Buffy Movie– but was touting the new “Buffy MOTION Comic”.

Which proves that– with the internet– there is no “new” news anymore.

And if I was going to be wrong, I’m glad it was in one of my very first Blog Posts. I’m certain I’ll never go off “half-cocked” again… Ever. ;-)

INSTEAD OF WRITING “THE NEW BUFFY”, WHY DIDN’T THEY JUST WRITE…

“FUCK YOU, BUFFY FANS!”*

WHAAAAAAAAAAAT?!?

* MY APOLOGIES TO JOSS WHEDON IF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS NOT ALLUDING TO WHAT I THINK IT IS. BUT IF IT IS REFERENCING WHAT I THINK IT IS… THEN WE’RE FUCKED!

  1. What the fuck is this shit?! “New Buffy”? Is it an article on the comic? A shitty reboot? The launch of the ill conceived animated series? OR are is EW comparing some existing vampire bullshit in pop culture to Buffy (which would be fucking tragic)? I must know!!!

What I fear is this is that FRIGGING BUFFY MOVIE that Fran Kuzui has been hyping… The one that Joss basically said, “Good luck with that. I won’t be involved.”

She is a partial rights holder to the property. Joss must’ve signed a REALLY SHITTY CONTRACT years ago for this travesty to be moving forward without his blessing.

      • Damn. I have heard the rumors about a reboot movie for a while now but I thought it just went away and died. Guess I’ll have to hit Border’s and flip through this issue to see what they are talking about.

A reboot makes no sense to me. I KNOW they will try and gear it towards a new audience but they will also completely alienate the core audience who will not accept it.

I will admit that the original Buffy tv series is a bit dated (especially the first couple of seasons) but Fox should find someway to sell that existing series to this generation’s “Twihards”. Though there is a strong chance that Twihards probably won’t accept a female lead character that is not completely codependent and pathetic.

        • Now I know how people feel when they can’t edit their comments on our blog for corrections.

I get EW in the mail. Should get it tomorrow. If you can wait ’til then… I can just tell you what’s happening. (Save you a trip if you don’t want to go.)

If it IS what I think it is… I’ll be wiping my ass with it and posting THAT on my blog sometime tomorrow.

          • Ya, I really hate going into Border’s. People sitting around, drinking overpriced coffee and reading stacks of manga for free without feeling guilty about it. Place drives me mad as a comic retailer. I will usually tough it out if I NEED to go in there for the new issue of Asian Cult Cinema or Video Watchdog. I would much rather just respond to your post ripping the shit out of whatever announcement it is.

You and me BOTH, Brother. I see that same scene at the Barnes & Noble all the time. I actually went to my local Borders for the first time in 5 years last week… To buy, of all things, an EXTREMELY HARD TO FIND copy of Strawberry 100% #4. (Helloooo, Fan Service.) They had one copy at cover– everybody else on the net wanted at least $79.00 for a new copy… I shit you not.

I was never more happy that I was buying a book wrapped in plastic in my life… With all those grubby chocolate stained fingers flipping through all those books. I will say this, though– they had a GREAT selection of Manga, Hardcovers and Trades… Nicely presented. This particular store’s buyer knew his/her stuff because they had a lot of great indie HCs & GNs too.

You probably know this but they let you join their Book Club for FREE now as you make any purchase. After you sign up and make a purchase, the register spits out a $5 OFF coupon for your next purchase. So you could go in and buy a pencil and then get $5 off coupon for a vid mag– if you’re not already in the club… And you could go buy the mag right after the pencil and just get back in the checkout line with your coupon. They don’t care. This is all new to me… but I loved all I had to do was give them my email address to sign up. No paperwork. Just an email address.
